WEST SUSSEX RAIL USERS ASSOCIATION

Tel: 01243 788028
This is formal notice that the Annual General Meeting of the Association will be on Saturday 2nd November at 10am for 10.15am in the Studio of the Capitol at Horsham (the Horsham Arts Centre).
Our Committee has shrunk over recent years and we have now lost Michael Gill from Arundel who has moved out of the area. We will miss his valuable contributions. Please let me know if you would like to join our Committee or even to stand for one of the Officer’s positions (you will need a formal nomination for the latter).
After the formal business our guest speaker will be Angie Doll, Managing Director, Southern and Gatwick Express who will talk to us about the past year on Southern and GTR’s plans for the future. There will be ample time for you to ask questions on Southern’s recent performance and other matters./p>
We hope that you we be able to attend the meeting. If you are unable to join us and have a question for the Committee or Angie Doll, please let me have the details as soon as possible.
Most members have now paid their 2019 subscriptions. If you have not paid, a renewal form is enclosed and we would be grateful if any outstanding amounts could be paid as soon as possible or, at the AGM if you attend. If you no longer wish to remain a member, please let me know by e-mail, post or telephone.
Our suggestions for expenditure of our “share” of the £15m released to GTR by the Department for Transport outlined in our June Newsletter were sent to the GTR Passenger Benefit Fund team at the end of June. We are now awaiting developments. We hope to know more in October and certainly by the AGM.
As mentioned in our June Newsletter a nine-day line closure will take place in October/November 2019 affecting the West Coastway between Barnham and Havant. There will also be several subsequent weekend closures. This is to allow Network Rail to replace the tracks and replace life expired equipment at several level crossings with new, more reliable, technology. The work will improve the reliability of rail services on the line and the reliability of the level crossings, reducing delays for rail passengers and motorists.
On the weekdays, from Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2019, buses will replace trains between Fareham, Havant and Chichester and journeys will take longer than usual. The closure has been carefully planned for school half-term, when passenger numbers are lower and some people may be able to be more flexible with their travel plans or take holiday.
On the following weekend dates buses will replace trains between Havant and Barnham:
Throughout the work there will be no Southern services between Havant and Portsmouth or Southampton. Trains to London and Brighton will still run from Bognor. During the weekdays (Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November), trains to London and Brighton will also still run from Chichester.
From the limited information we have, it looks as though there will be near normal service on both the Arun Valley line and the West Coastway line east and north of Barnham. We will update the information on all this next month with, we hope, bus timetables and any amendments to the trains from Chichester and Bognor.
There are no changes to Southern services affecting our lines. On Thameslink, there will be enhancements to the current Saturday service with Horsham to London Bridge trains being extended to Peterborough. These will run in similar times to the current Monday to Friday service.
